I'd Like To Finish The Windows Project, But I'd Also Like to Have Running Water

When we bought this poor old Colonial, we knew we had alot of projects headed our way.

Mr. Hippie Professor, the prior owner, did this house no favors.

One of the projects (still) on the list has been replacing the plumbing to the upstairs bathroom (2nd floor) and the Powder Room (1st floor).

You can see where this is heading.

So last week I was taking a shower in upstairs bathroom, which is our main bathroom.

As I was getting out I noticed black flakes in the water, and little bit of water than usual waiting to draing.

When I turned around several minutes later, water was backing up out of the pipe.

Not alot, but then again this is the kind of situation where the amount doesn't matter.

Clogged pipes are clogged pipes, period.

We've been told by our plumbers (Gene Johnson Plumbing, we love these guys!) that we were living on borrowed time with these pipes.

So we decided, well, we wanted to finish the last phase of replacing the windows (only 6 more to go out of 25!) but alas, that'll have to wait now.

Replacing the plumbing to those 2 bathrooms will be about $7500.

We are going to wait a couple of weeks though, because we have a whole other full bathroom in the basement and hey, why not put it to use?

Plus give us some time to figure out what toilets to buy (we might as well replace them while we are at it, get better water efficiency) and to find a dry waller (2 walls will need to be cut into.

The good news though is our water bill will go down, this will complete all the plumbing in the house (so then we can say "all upgraded plumbing"), and they won't have to cut into the tiles in each of the bathrooms (original Art Deco '30s era tiles).
